There is a high prevalence of child labor and human trafficking, particularly in the Eastern area of Sierra Leone, where I am from. Most of the children between the ages of 12 and 15 are involved in street trading, with the majority of orphaned children being deprived of their child rights. As a journalist, I was particularly interested in this training program because it would help me develop investigative skills in order to provide in-depth reporting on these topics, which I believe would be critical in raising awareness and impacting change.
I've benefited greatly from this training. I've gained knowledge and experience, and I now feel competent in covering issues relating to child labor and human trafficking. My goal is to use these skills to generate high-quality news production and, with the aid of my media outlet, to raise awareness of these subjects affecting the Sierra Leonean community.
